Courtney Johnson, MA (she/her)

Therapist

Courtney (she/her) is a trauma-informed clinician with a strong background in child and family therapy. She works with children, adolescents, and families, and is deeply committed to creating a safe, supportive space where clients feel seen, heard, and empowered. Building genuine rapport and trust is central to her work, and she believes therapy is most effective when clients have autonomy and an active voice in shaping their sessions, while thoughtfully working toward shared therapeutic goals. Laughter and humor are foundational to her approach because, as she often says, “Life is hard – why make it harder?”

Courtney earned her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the Boston Graduate School of Psychoanalysis and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology from Cornell University. She brings experience from outpatient, school-based, and crisis settings, where she has provided individual, group, and family therapy. Her work has included IEP development, crisis intervention, and close collaboration with families and community partners such as DCF, DMH, DDS, and DYS.

Guided by her psychoanalytic training and trauma-informed lens, Courtney is dedicated to culturally responsive care and is especially passionate about supporting diverse and marginalized communities. Her integrative approach draws from CBT, DBT, Play Therapy, somatic techniques, trauma-focused and strength-based practices, person-centered therapy, psychodynamic work, family systems, Gottman-informed interventions, and crisis work. She has experience supporting individuals and families navigating adjustment-related challenges, anxiety, PTSD, autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, OCD, ODD, depressive disorders, self-harm, substance use (including supporting loved ones impacted by substance use), and grief and loss. Above all, Courtney is passionate about reducing stigma around mental health and increasing access to care for those who may not traditionally seek support.

To recharge in her spare time, Courtney enjoys: spending time with family, friends and her 2 Poms; learning and trying new things; watching movies/tv/documentaries; listening to music/podcasts/audiobooks; and swimming.
