Ian Collins is a licensed psychotherapist with over a decade of experience treating individuals, couples and families struggling with mental health disorders. He has worked with children, adolescents and adults in various settings including outpatient clinics, university counseling centers, juvenile detention, group practices and Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) teams. Prior to joining Ellie Mental Health, he was the clinical director of Triangle Wellness & Recovery and clinical director of the Ellenhorn Raleigh location. Ian has also served as assistant director of a day program, and the program manager of a homeless services department.
He is a level two, Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP-II) and engages clients in a supportive, fun, and respectful manner, using his training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), trauma-informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Open-Dialogue (OD), EMDR, and Mentalization-Based Therapy (MBT). He has also completed training in providing ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, through the Polaris Insight Center. Ian is skilled in helping clients navigate challenging familial and social relationships. In addition to psychotherapy Ian provides academic, personal and professional coaching to clients.
Ian holds a Bachelor’s in Social Work from East Carolina University, where he was a nominee for the Distinguished Alumni Award, and a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Maryland. He is also a doctoral student, at the University of Alabama, researching the use of radical hospitality for improving treatment outcomes. Before completing his formal education, Ian was a touring musician, and recorded and released five studio albums. He is the co-founder of a mobile application that assists the homeless and underserved populations of New York City, called HelpFinder NYC.
