Lauren Gardner, Master of Arts/LPC

Therapist

Growing up, I was always on stage, displaying my love for the arts through performance. As I grew into adulthood, I realized I had been performing off the stage, too. Through my own counseling, I began to learn that this performance was in the form of denying my own needs, being afraid to take up space and fearing asking for help. Counseling taught me how to integrate all of the parts of myself that make me who I am, including the parts that might seem less appealing.  I work best with clients seeking to clarify their identity, who wish to take back their power, members of the LGBTQ + community, and folks whom are ready to rewrite BS narratives imposed by lies of society.

I am skilled at helping you get excited about yourself and the work because *I* am excited about you and the work. I am authentic and offer goofiness and cuss words without the stuffiness of performative professionalism.  I am Teacher AND Student as therapy is a reciprocal process. I learn from you, too.  You’re lived experience MATTERS and is important.

I work from a therapeutic orientation focused on human agency, choice, the power of the present moment, body sensations, emotions, experience and the client as expert on self. These ideas have fancy names like CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, mindfulness, existentialism and humanistic approaches.

I impart what I can about being whole, well and human. I am a fierce advocate for my clients. Advocating with and for the person in front of me, the person in their environment, and each level and intersection there from outward and upward. Never just a number, never just a client.  I would be honored to work with you!

In my spare time, I enjoy parenting my plethora of plants, making art, attending theater performances and cuddling or adventuring with my rescue pup!
