Carolyn Shayte, LMHC

Therapist

Carolyn (they/them) is a queer and non-binary art therapist with additional training in human sexuality, utilizing a trauma-informed understanding, and a relational, strength-based, person-centered approach. Originally hailing from Baltimore, MD, Carolyn received their BFA in 2014 from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Interdisciplinary Sculpture. They previously split their time between working at an art non-profit for adults with disabilities and teaching art and art history to senior adults in various settings. Through this work Carolyn discovered they have a passion for helping people of any age find their inner artist and re-engage with their creative processes and pursuits. In 2019 Carolyn moved to Santa Fe, NM to pursue their MA from Southwestern College in Art Therapy and Counseling and graduated from the program in 2022. Carolyn sees healing as a life-long process that takes many different forms and variations and believes that the more we can know ourselves, the more ability we have to change. They see art and community as tools for discovery, empowerment, and transformation, that can help one cope through life’s transitions.

Outside of work, Carolyn is an avid nature lover and hiker, and enjoys spending time writing, reading, and making their own art.
