Nahal C. Kaivan, Ph.D.

Clinic Director & Licensed Psychologist

As Clinic Director at Larchmont Ellie, I am deeply committed to promoting mental health equity and access. With expertise in couples, family, individual, and group therapy, I integrate interpersonal, ecological, family systems, and behavioral approaches to empower clients with the skills they need to thrive in optimal wellness. I am particularly interested in working with Couples using Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) and Gottman-informed modalities and techniques.

My journey spans practice, research, and teaching in the United States, France, Spain, and Morocco, fueling my passion for continuous growth and learning. I have extensive experience in community mental health, working with adolescents, individuals, couples, and families, as well as in higher education roles such as university counseling center staff psychologist and coordinator of group services, dean, and professor.

Holding a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology and a Master’s in Marital and Family Therapy, I focus on understanding family systems and multicultural psychology. My work is grounded in social justice, reflecting my experience as a woman of color, a first-generation American, and my intersecting identities. I provide services in English, Spanish and Persian.
