Meghan Murphy, MHC

Therapist

Meghan Murphy is a provisionally-licenced Mental Health Counselor in the State of New York. She earned her Masters of Science in Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY and completed a Masters level internship at Samaritan Counseling Center – Scotia, NY in June 2024. Prior to that, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from State University of New York at New Paltz in New Paltz, NY.

Although she is competent across all age groups and dynamics including family and couples counseling, Meghan is interested in working with adolescent and adult clients in the capacity of familial challenges, relational difficulties, adjustment disorders, anxiety, depression, trauma, multicultural issues, LGBTQIA+ identity, and sexuality. She works primarily from a Humanistic perspective and believes that the client is the expert in the room and should have full autonomy in their life decisions. To Meghan, the therapeutic alliance is the most important part of her work and it is her passion to help individuals to uncover their strengths. Through motivational interviewing, she prompts exploration of personal values and self schema, working to catalyze change and promote emotional regulation and healthy navigation through ever changing environments. In conjunction with her Client-Centered work, she utilizes interventions from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), systemic therapy, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and psychodynamic therapy to help cater to client’s individual needs. Meghan also recognizes that many current day struggles have a root cause of unresolved trauma and works to integrate exploration of trauma into her work with all populations.

Prior to becoming a professional counselor, Meghan worked as a Pre-School and Pre-Kindergarten teacher. She also has experience working in fine arts.

In her free time, Meghan enjoys making pottery, going to the movies with friends, spending quality time with family, exploring new places and finding new adventures, and catching up on her favorite TV shows.
