Taking the first step towards anything worthwhile comes with a wide range of emotions, which can be difficult and feel overwhelming. Lauren McCarthy is a person-centered therapist that is here to meet you where you are and work alongside you on your journey of self-improvement and self-compassion.

Lauren was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In her free time she enjoys making art, reading, doing household projects, antiquing with her husband, snuggling her cats, and spending time with her friends and family. Lauren is a Licensed Professional Counselor-In Training and received her Masters of Science in Art Therapy from Mount Mary University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

As a therapist, Lauren prioritizes authenticity, is nonjudgmental, and believes that you are the expert in your own life. She practices from a trauma-informed lens and works collaboratively with her clients to create a holistic treatment plan to improve her clients quality of life.

She works with individuals ages 5 and older. Lauren has experience with individual, couples, family, and group therapy. She has experience working with individuals of varying ethnicities, cultures, genders, sexualities, and socioeconomic status.

Lauren has experience working with a variety of diagnoses including: ADD/ADHD, adoption, anger, anxiety, autism spectrum, chronic medical conditions, conduct disorder, depression, developmental disorders, eating disorders, gender and sexual identity, LGBTQIA+, mood disorders, OCD, ODD, PTSD, psychosis, sensory processing, sexual trauma, sleep disturbance, substance abuse, and traumatic brain injuries.

She utilizes a variety of theories and techniques within her practice including: Art therapy, CBT, Neuro-Somatic Integration, Motivational interviewing, psychoeducation, sensory integration, and humor. She specializes in working with trauma and is additionally trained in Brainspotting.
