My name is Kevin McDermott and I am a Licensed Associate Counselor with a graduate degree from Montclair State University. Prior to receiving my clinical licensure, I worked as a school counselor for 10 years in private schools within the K-8 age range. In the clinical setting, I have significant experience working in private practice and have a foundational background in DBT.
I have experience working with all ages in the private setting, including with clients suffering from anxiety and depression, OCD, ADHD, Bipolar, substance abuse, and transitional issues. I also had the opportunity to work as a group counselor in a hospital setting for those suffering from eating disorders. Overall, my exposure to working with clients of all backgrounds has provided me with the ability to be flexible and adaptable in all settings. I am passionate about working with individuals (adults and children) who struggle with anxiety and depression, and have significant experience working with children suffering from school anxiety.
I believe that a critical piece of therapy involves establishing a trusting relationship with my clients. Creating a non-judgmental, warm, and welcoming atmosphere is my primary goal as a therapist. I believe that mental healthcare is a human right, and I am excited to work with others who believe the same.
