Starting therapy can feel intimidating-especially when stigma or uncertainty gets in the way. You don’t have to navigate that alone. My name is Grant Amoateng, and I am a Resident in Counseling with a master’s degree from Bluefield University. I work with individuals, families, and athletes who are feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, or behavioral concerns and are ready to better understand themselves and move forward with purpose. I believe therapy is a collaborative journey-one where your story, values, and lived experiences matter. Together, we explore both the internal and external challenges shaping your life, helping you build insight, resilience, and a stronger sense of self. My approach is flexible and client‑centered, integrating person‑centered, psychodynamic, multicultural, and family systems perspectives to meet you where you are, not where you’re “supposed” to be. Creating a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space is central to my work. Many people carry silent battles, and therapy can be a place to name those struggles openly, process difficult emotions, and begin meaningful healing. You don’t need to have everything figured out to start-just a willingness to show up. In addition to my clinical work, my background in coaching has shaped a special passion for working with athletes, particularly collegiate athletes navigating the transition to life after sports. Identity shifts, performance pressure, and adjusting to a new chapter can be challenging, and I help athletes translate the strengths they developed in sport into confidence and direction beyond the game. Outside of the therapy room, I enjoy music, creative arts, sports, and fashion, which often help me connect authentically with clients and appreciate the many ways people express who they are. If you’re seeking a therapist who values growth, cultural awareness, and genuine connection, I would be honored to walk alongside you on your journey.
