Gerardo Michel, Psychology Trainees

Therapist

Gerardo is currently a third-year graduate student in the Clinical Psychology PhD program at Miami University in Ohio. He has been learning how to provide evidence-based treatment and assessments to adults, children, and adolescents through Miami University’s Psychology Clinic. Gerardo has experience in treating internalizing symptoms (such as depression and anxiety) and interpersonal distress using approaches such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), behavioral activation (BA), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT).

Some of Gerardo’s past experiences include crisis work, such as with the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. He always aims to create a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment for his clients, and Gerardo is open to working with diverse cultural identities and concerns. In his research, Gerardo studies how emotion processes in youth may relate to their emotion regulation and internalizing symptoms.

In his free time, he enjoys playing video games and spending time with his fur baby (that is, his cat)!
