Starting therapy—especially for your child or teen—can bring up a lot of questions. Will this actually help? Will they feel comfortable? What if I’m not sure what’s “wrong,” but I just know something feels off? I get it. Therapy doesn’t require a crisis or a perfect explanation to begin—it just requires a willingness to explore, reflect, and grow.
I’m Dr. Liz Schallack (she/her), a PsyD and a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor who brings a calm, steady, and compassionate presence to therapy. I work with children, adolescents, and adults—but I especially love partnering with parents who are trying to support their kids through big feelings, tough transitions, or behavioral shifts. I approach therapy with warmth, authenticity, and a deep belief that healing happens best when we feel seen, heard, and safe.
In my work, I focus on building a true partnership with each client (and when relevant, their caregivers). I view therapy as a collaborative process: you bring your expertise on yourself or your child, and I bring clinical training, presence, and strategies to help make sense of what’s unfolding. I take time to understand my clients’ passions, interests, and strengths—whether that means following a child’s lead in the playroom or exploring creative coping strategies with a teenager who’s had a tough week. We don’t jump to “fix”—we start with connection.
My clinical experience spans parent/child relationships, trauma, anxiety, mood disorders (including bipolar disorder), ADHD, postpartum mental health, stress, and life transitions. I support families navigating change, children struggling with emotion regulation or friendships, and parents wondering how to build better routines, set boundaries, or reconnect with a child who seems distant or dysregulated.
Some of the tools I use in sessions include person-centered and play-centered therapy, expressive arts, ACT (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy), CBT, trauma-informed care, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, and solution-focused strategies. Whether we’re working on emotional regulation, communication skills, or building internal coping tools, my goal is to help clients develop practical, usable strategies that support their growth both in and out of session.
I’m especially passionate about helping clients and families find balance—emotionally, physically, and relationally. I talk a lot about my “big four”: boundaries, balance, sleep, and hope. These aren’t just clinical buzzwords—they’re foundational to helping kids, teens, and adults feel grounded, connected, and empowered in their daily lives. I also have deep experience supporting perinatal and postpartum clients, as well as those facing relational challenges, identity shifts, or the complexities of parenting through hard seasons.
My approach is nurturing, patient, and affirming—but also grounded in clinical structure. I believe in meeting people where they are while gently helping them grow toward where they want to be. My clients often tell me they feel understood, respected, and that therapy with me feels both safe and impactful. I want every client—especially young ones and their caregivers—to leave sessions knowing they are not alone, that their experiences matter, and that therapy is a place for growth, not perfection.
You won’t need to bring a script or have all the answers to get started. Just a willingness to show up and explore what’s possible. I’ll be here with compassion, curiosity, and a whole toolkit of skills, insights, and support.
If you’re ready to take that next step—whether for yourself, your child, or your family—I’d be honored to walk with you through the fires in life.
