Maritza is a licensed bilingual psychotherapist who earned her degree in Mental Health Counseling from CUNY Brooklyn College. She has had the privilege of supporting individuals and families from diverse and underrepresented communities, and brings additional training and experience in research, teaching, childhood development, and crisis intervention.
Throughout her work, Maritza has supported individuals, couples, and their families as they navigate a wide range of life experiences and challenges, including mood and personality disorders, grief and bereavement, cultural and identity-related concerns, interpersonal difficulties, life transitions, and complex trauma. She understands that each person’s story is unique and believes therapy should be a space where clients feel heard, respected, and free to show up as they are.
Maritza takes an integrative, trauma-informed approach to therapy, drawing from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), psychodynamic, and person-centered approaches. She works collaboratively with her clients to create a safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental space where they can better understand themselves, reconnect with their strengths, and develop meaningful strategies for navigating life’s challenges.
At the heart of Maritza’s work is a belief that clients already possess valuable strengths and skills. Her role is to help her clients build upon those strengths, reclaim their sense of agency, and feel more empowered in their lives and relationships. Outside of the therapy space, Maritza enjoys spending quality time with her fur baby, Bowie, and finding time to disconnect from screens and enjoy the little things in life.
