Sumintra is a warm and dedicated Resident in Counseling who believes therapy can be a space for both deep growth and meaningful celebration along the way. She is passionate about helping clients feel seen, heard, and valued while honoring the unique experiences, identities, and turning points that have shaped who they are.
Sumintra earned her B.A. in Psychology from Hampton University and her M.Ed. in Counselor Education from Virginia Commonwealth University, where she specialized in Couples and Family Counseling. Her clinical experience includes community mental health and outpatient therapy settings, working with children, teens, and adults in individual, couples, family, and group therapy.
She draws from Emotion-Focused Therapy, Supportive Therapy, the Gottman Method, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, thoughtfully tailoring each session to meet clients where they are. Whether someone needs encouragement, practical tools, deeper insight, or simply space to pause and breathe, Sumintra works collaboratively to support their goals.
As a proud second-generation Caribbean American, Sumintra values cultural humility and open-mindedness. She remains mindful of how cultural identity, societal influences, and personal history shape each person’s lived experience, and she strives to create a safe, welcoming environment where clients can share openly and authentically.
At the heart of her work is a commitment to walking alongside clients as they build resilience, strengthen relationships, and move toward the life they want feeling supported, understood, and reminded that joy is allowed, even in the midst of growth.
Outside of her clinical work, Sumintra enjoys exercising, spending time with family and friends, and exploring new cuisines.
