Life is rarely as simple as it looks from the outside. Whether it’s the everyday weight of anxiety, a hard transition, or old pain that keeps resurfacing, most of us reach a point where “it’ll be fine” isn’t enough — what we actually need is a space where someone listens.
Hi, I’m Sarah Wahlen (she/her), a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) at Ellie Mental Health in Lincolnwood, IL. I work with clients of all ages — children, teens, adults, and families — navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, self-injury, and major life transitions, bringing a trauma-informed, strengths-based approach to every session.
I believe mental health isn’t shaped only by what’s happening inside us — it’s shaped by the larger systems we’re part of, too: family, school or work, culture, community. That’s why I take time to understand the whole picture. Therapy with me is a space to explore your emotions, experiences, and relationships honestly, while building the real, practical skills you need to create a life that feels meaningful and fulfilling on your own terms.
My clinical focus areas include anxiety, depression, trauma, self-injury, and major life transitions across the lifespan — from the everyday challenges of growing up to the identity shifts and transitions that come with adulthood.
I strive to create a safe, affirming environment for clients of diverse cultural backgrounds and for the LGBTQIA+ community, where every client is met with acceptance, not judgment.
Outside of sessions, you’ll usually find me chasing sunshine-filled days, discovering new live music, having a cozy TV night with my cat, or trying a restaurant I’ve never been to.
If you’re ready for a warm, affirming space to be heard — whatever your age or stage of life — I’d love to work with you. Reach out to Ellie Mental Health in Lincolnwood to schedule a session with Sarah.
