Novi, MI 48375
Hi, I’m Sarah Mendelssohn—a Clinical Health Psychologist who believes therapy should feel like a real conversation, not an interrogation. My approach is genuine, compassionate, and often sprinkled with humor—because sometimes, the best way through the hard stuff is with a little lightness and honesty.
I work with individuals ages 8 and up, as well as couples, helping them navigate anxiety, trauma, ADHD, mood disorders, and relationship challenges. I’m passionate about helping people reconnect with their strengths, improve emotional awareness, and develop practical tools for a more balanced, fulfilling life.
Therapy with me is collaborative and nonjudgmental. We’ll explore what’s getting in the way, figure out what needs to shift, and build strategies that fit you—your personality, your pace, and your goals.
💬 How I Work
My sessions are conversational and client-centered. I use evidence-based therapies including:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help you understand and reframe unhelpful thought patterns.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to support values-driven living and emotional flexibility.
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for trauma recovery and healing from painful experiences.
I also draw on training in suicidal ideation and crisis intervention, traumatic brain injury rehabilitation, and psychological assessment, giving me a well-rounded understanding of both emotional and cognitive aspects of healing.
My goal is to meet you exactly where you are—with empathy, curiosity, and evidence-based care that moves you forward. Whether you’re feeling anxious, burned out, disconnected, or stuck, I’ll help you find practical ways to navigate life’s complexities with more confidence and compassion.
🌿 Who I Work With
I specialize in supporting clients navigating:
Anxiety and Social Anxiety – Learning to calm the mind, challenge fears, and build confidence in social and personal situations.
ADHD and Executive Functioning Challenges – Developing tools for focus, organization, and self-acceptance.
Trauma and PTSD – Processing painful experiences with safety, structure, and compassion.
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) – Gaining control over intrusive thoughts and compulsive patterns.
Bipolar Disorder and Mood Regulation – Building awareness, coping strategies, and emotional balance.
Grief and Life Transitions – Navigating loss, change, and growth with patience and understanding.
Couples Therapy – Rebuilding trust, improving communication, and rediscovering connection.
I’m also experienced in supporting neurodivergent individuals, LGBTQ+ clients, and those from diverse cultural backgrounds. My practice is inclusive and affirming—I want every client to feel seen, heard, and supported.
🧠 My Background
I earned my Master of Science in Clinical Health Psychology from the University of Michigan–Dearborn and have worked in both nonprofit and private practice settings, including trauma-focused rehabilitation centers. My clinical experience includes work with trauma, anxiety, chronic pain, and neurological conditions such as traumatic brain injury.
Before joining Ellie Mental Health, I provided therapy at FairSky Foundation and Innovative Rehab Systems, where I specialized in trauma-informed care and interdisciplinary collaboration. My work in rehabilitation psychology taught me that recovery—mental, emotional, or physical—requires patience, compassion, and teamwork.
I also have extensive experience in psychological assessment, which helps me better understand the unique cognitive, emotional, and behavioral patterns that influence each client’s story.
❤️ Why I Love This Work
Therapy, to me, is a space where people can finally exhale. It’s a place to be imperfect, vulnerable, and curious about what comes next. I’m not here to fix you—I’m here to walk beside you while you rediscover your own strength.
My sessions are equal parts validation, reflection, and growth. Some days we’ll tackle tough topics; other days, we’ll find humor in the messiness of being human. What matters most is that you leave each session feeling a little more grounded, a little more hopeful, and a lot more like yourself.
🌈 A Bit About Me
When I’m not in session, I’m probably spending time with my husband, our baby boy, Julian, and our orange cat, Pita. I love getting outside, finding the best coffee in town, and appreciating life’s small joys (because mindfulness is more than a buzzword—it’s a way of noticing the good stuff).
At Ellie Mental Health in Novi, we believe therapy should feel human—real conversations, real connection, and real results. Whether you’re starting therapy for the first time or returning after a break, my goal is to make it approachable, empowering, and tailored to you.
If you’re ready to laugh a little, cry a little, and grow a lot, I’d love to work with you. Schedule today and let’s take that first step toward a calmer, more connected you.
