About Mary Hopkinson
Mary works primarily with adults and couples, as well as adolescents ages 13+, who are navigating borderline personality disorder, complex trauma/CPTSD, mood concerns, anxiety, depression, attachment difficulties, and relationship challenges. She is especially interested in helping clients better understand the relational and emotional patterns that can affect their sense of self, relationships, and overall well-being.
Her style is direct, compassionate, and collaborative. Mary takes a holistic, biopsychosocial, and trauma-informed approach to therapy, drawing most heavily from Mentalization-Based Therapy (MBT), Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), psychoanalytic/psychodynamic approaches, and Narrative Therapy. She may also incorporate DBT and attachment-focused interventions based on each client’s individual needs.
As a neurodivergent therapist, Mary brings an affirming perspective to neurodivergence while focusing her clinical work more heavily on attachment, personality, mood, trauma, and relational concerns than on ADHD or other developmental disorders.
Mary believes therapy can help clients make sense of longstanding patterns, develop greater emotional awareness, strengthen relationships, and build healthier ways of responding to themselves and others. She works to create a space where clients can be open and challenged while still feeling supported and understood.
