There are times in life when you realize something needs to change, even if you’re not entirely sure what that change should look like. Maybe you’re questioning your direction, struggling in a relationship, carrying more anger or anxiety than you want to, or wondering how you became so disconnected from the person you intended to be. Therapy can be a place to slow things down, look honestly at what’s happening, and figure out where you want to go from here.
Hi, I’m Geoff Miller, MS, and I earned my master’s degree in School Counseling from National Louis University. My style is conversational, empathetic, curious, and collaborative. I ask thoughtful questions because I genuinely want to understand your perspective and what has shaped it. I also use humor when it comes naturally. While feeling heard matters, I believe therapy should have purpose. We’ll talk about what’s happening, but we’ll also work toward meaningful change.
I see therapy as a partnership. You bring your experiences, values, challenges, and hopes for your life; I bring perspective, guidance, and practical strategies to help you move forward. I’m not here to tell you who you should be or hand you a one-size-fits-all solution. I am here to help you better understand yourself, consider new perspectives, and make intentional decisions about the life and relationships you want.
I work with teens, college students, young adults, adults, couples, parents, professionals, executives, and families, particularly people who find themselves at a crossroads. My clinical interests include anxiety, depression, OCD, relationship and family concerns, career exploration, life transitions, anger, interpersonal conflict, communication, health and lifestyle changes, and educational and life planning. I also have experience supporting individuals navigating addiction and those who currently serve or have served in the armed forces.
I have a particular passion for working with men who want greater direction and purpose. Sometimes that means asking bigger questions: What kind of man do I want to be? What kind of spouse, father, friend, or professional? What needs to change for my actions to better reflect my values? I also enjoy helping clients understand anger—not simply as something to control, but as an emotion we can learn to recognize, slow down, and respond to more thoughtfully.
Relationships are another important part of my work. I enjoy helping couples strengthen communication, negotiate conflict more effectively, understand each other more deeply, and create healthier, more supportive partnerships. When working with couples, I incorporate principles from the Gottman Method.
My overall approach is integrative and tailored to the person in front of me. Depending on your needs, I draw from CBT, Trauma-Focused CBT, Solution-Focused Therapy, mindfulness, Person-Centered Therapy, and ACT. I’m also especially interested in working with individuals experiencing OCD and continue to deepen my knowledge and training in this area.
Outside the therapy room, I’m a dad who enjoys spending time with my kids, reading, learning, biking, hiking, camping, traveling, bowling, dancing, and staying active. Put me near the water and I’m usually happy—boating and water skiing are favorites. I love discovering new cultures and cuisines, and given the choice, I’ll generally take the warm, sunny destination with a beach.
Ultimately, I want therapy to extend beyond the hour we spend together. My hope is that you leave with a clearer understanding of your strengths, values, and priorities; practical tools you can actually use; and greater confidence in your ability to navigate difficult decisions, relationships, and seasons of life.
You don’t have to know exactly where you’re going before you begin. Sometimes the first step is simply being willing to take an honest look at where you are. From there, we can work together to build greater clarity, confidence, and purpose—and help you become more intentional about the person you want to be.
