Some kids feel everything at full volume and don’t yet have the words for it. Some teens are trying to figure out who they are while the world keeps asking them to be someone else. Some adults have been told to “just relax” so many times they’ve stopped saying anything. If you or your child are neurodivergent, you may have spent years being treated as a problem to fix instead of a person to understand.
Hi, I’m Elsa Hinke. I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor in Training at Ellie in Hales Corners, and I work with children ages 4 and up, teens, and adults navigating anxiety, emotional regulation, relationships, life transitions, self-confidence, and trauma. I have a particular niche in working with neurodivergent clients, including ADHD and autism, and helping people understand how their own brain works so they can stop fighting it.
Sessions with me depend on who’s in the room. With younger kids we play, draw, and use the sand tray, because that’s how they tell their story. With teens and adults we talk, we notice patterns, and we build practical strategies that fit real life. I’m creative and I’m practical, and I’ll always meet you at whatever stage of life you’re in.
You don’t have to come in with a plan. You don’t have to know what’s wrong. My job is to make sure you feel comfortable being yourself, heard without judgment, and supported in whatever change you decide is worth making.
I draw on CBT to work with the thoughts that keep you stuck, ACT to reconnect you with what actually matters, DBT skills for the moments emotions run hot, and play therapy and parent-child work for younger clients. Everything is grounded in a person-centered approach, because you are the expert in your own life and I’m here to work alongside you, not ahead of you.
I earned both my Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, with a Child and Adolescent specialty, and my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Marquette University.
