Welcome to Ellie Mental Health! My name is Carrie Currey, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC-A) under the supervision of Dr. Angela Waggoner, LPC-S. I earned my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Stephen F. Austin State University in 2024 and am licensed through the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council.
During my clinical training at the Andrews Center, I worked with adults experiencing a variety of mental health concerns, including depressive disorders, bipolar disorder, schizoaffective disorder, trauma, and severe and persistent mental illness. Since then, I have expanded my experience working with adolescents and adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, ADHD, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), self-harm, panic disorders, grief, life transitions, suicidal thoughts, and difficulties with emotional regulation and self-esteem.
I believe that therapy works best when clients feel genuinely seen, heard, and accepted. My goal is to create a compassionate, nonjudgmental space where you can explore your experiences openly, develop insight, and build practical skills to navigate life’s challenges. While I cannot remove the hardships you face, I can walk alongside you, helping you make sense of your experiences and move toward the life you want to create. I believe you are the expert on your own life, and my role is to collaborate with you by providing support, education, and evidence-based tools tailored to your unique needs.
My therapeutic approach is person-centered and integrative because I recognize that no single approach fits everyone. I draw from evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), mindfulness-based interventions, and trauma-informed care. Together, we will work toward understanding patterns that may no longer serve you, strengthening healthy coping strategies, building resilience, and creating meaningful, lasting change.
Whether you’re seeking support for anxiety, trauma, relationship concerns, life transitions, or simply feeling stuck, I would be honored to be part of your journey. My hope is that therapy becomes a place where you feel safe to grow, process difficult experiences, and discover your strengths as you move toward a more fulfilling life.
I look forward to meeting you and supporting you every step of the way.
