I believe therapy should be flexible enough to fit the person rather than expecting the person to fit the therapy. My approach is grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), with an emphasis on helping clients make room for difficult thoughts and emotions, understand what matters to them, and find ways to move toward the life they want to build. I bring warmth, humor, curiosity, and authenticity into the therapy room and strive to create a space where clients don’t feel like they have to censor themselves or say the “right” thing.
While ACT strongly influences how I understand and approach therapy, I integrate techniques from a variety of modalities based on each client’s needs, including CBT, DBT-informed skills, motivational interviewing, narrative and play-based approaches, and trauma-focused interventions. I am also certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), which I incorporate when appropriate rather than viewing trauma treatment as a one-size-fits-all process.
It is deeply important to me that therapy is a place where clients can explore who they are without judgment. I am LGBTQ+ affirming and welcome clients across sexual orientations, gender identities, relationships, cultures, and backgrounds. Whether we are exploring identity directly or it is simply one part of who you are, I want you to know that you do not have to defend, minimize, or explain your identity in order to be respected in my office.
Ultimately, I want therapy to be a place where we can be curious about what’s happening rather than treating every uncomfortable thought or feeling as something that needs to be eliminated. Together, we can explore patterns, build practical skills, identify what matters to you, and figure out what moving toward those values can look like in your actual life.
