About Maricruz Ramirez Guerrero

Maricruz Ramirez Guerrero is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) clinician who has extensive experience working with children, adolescents, and families. She earned both her Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Social Work from the University of North Carolina Wilmington.
Maricruz began her clinical career at Coastal Horizons Center, Inc. in Wilmington, North Carolina, working with children and families through Community-Based Family Services. Her experience includes individual and family therapy, parent support and education, crisis intervention, safety assessments and planning, and collaboration with community providers. She later transitioned into outpatient therapy, where she continued her passion for helping children, adolescents, and families navigate life’s challenges.
As a bilingual English- and Spanish-speaking clinician, Maricruz is passionate about increasing access to culturally responsive mental health services for Spanish-speaking individuals and families. She has extensive experience working with diverse populations and supporting clients experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, adjustment difficulties, trauma, mood-related concerns, family conflict, behavioral challenges, and significant life transitions.
Maricruz is trained in Supporting Transition Resilience of Newcomer Groups (STRONG) and has experience co-facilitating groups for immigrant and newcomer youth. Through this work, she has supported children and families navigating cultural transitions, adjustment, and other challenges associated with adapting to a new community. She is also trained in The Seven Challenges, an approach designed to support adolescents and young adults experiencing substance use and co-occurring emotional or behavioral concerns.
Maricruz’s therapeutic approach is collaborative, strengths-based, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive. Depending on each client’s individual needs, she incorporates evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused Therapy, and culturally sensitive interventions. She also recognizes the importance of involving caregivers and family systems when supporting children and adolescents.
Above all, Maricruz strives to create a safe, welcoming, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered. She believes that individuals are more than the challenges they experience and works alongside her clients to recognize their strengths, develop meaningful coping skills, build resilience, and feel more confident navigating life’s challenges.
