Who Sammy helps
Sammy works with individuals ages 3 and older, as well as couples and families. She enjoys working with clients from all cultural, racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds. Sammy has a particular passion for supporting children, adolescents, and families navigating grief, trauma, neurodivergence, life transitions, adoption, foster care, and reunification.
Specialties:
Sammy supports clients experiencing grief, depression, anxiety, trauma, PTSD, suicidal thoughts and self-harm, ADHD, autism spectrum concerns, adoption and foster care experiences, family transitions, and adjustment challenges. She also has experience working with individuals impacted by substance use and complex trauma, including abuse, neglect, and dissociative experiences.
Treatment approaches:
Sammy uses a flexible, individualized approach that incorporates both traditional talk therapy and creative, experiential interventions. Her approaches include mindfulness-based techniques, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy-informed interventions, art, music, play, nature-based therapy, and ecotherapy. She is also trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and is an Eagala Certified Professional, allowing her to incorporate equine-assisted therapy when appropriate.
Therapeutic style:
Sammy believes one of the most important parts of successful therapy is the relationship between the client and therapist. She strives to create a space where clients feel welcome, heard, understood, and safe while also feeling appropriately challenged to reach their potential. Sammy views herself as walking alongside her clients rather than ahead of or behind them. She takes time to understand what works for each individual and believes therapy does not have to look the same for everyone.
Education and Credentials
Sammy is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), a National Certified Counselor (NCC), and an Eagala Certified Professional.
