Maria is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who works with many skills-based therapy systems, including mindfulness techniques focused on learning to be more present. She utilizes a trauma-informed approach grounded in “bottom-up” theories such as grounding, breathing, and somatic awareness. Maria also incorporates at times, or pulls from; CBT, DBT, and ACT, all of which offer practical tools to help intercept maladaptive habits and manage distressing symptoms. With building on skills for clients to readily practice and implement outside of sessions. She finds that many people appreciate having a consistent, weekly space to vent or engage in talk therapy around current or ongoing stressors, which might include life transitions, caretaking, parenting, LBTQIA+ families, single parenting, divorce, break-ups, insomnia/sleep concerns, interpersonal conflict, grief/loss, women’s experiences, and in managing stress, anxiety, or depression.
Maria believes therapy can also serve as a space for shorter-term problem solving, especially during periods when life feels difficult to manage or balance. She offers an open and approachable environment designed to foster supportive care and room to breathe. She understands that beginning therapy can feel daunting, particularly for those who have never had access to therapy or are taking the plunge for the first time. Maria believes in meeting people where they are, taking time to understand who they are, and what makes up their world. Creating a safe and welcoming space to explore patterns, habits, and symptom relief.
