About Kevin McDermott
Hi everyone, my name is Kevin McDermott and I am a Licensed Associate Counselor. I have significant experience working as a counselor in the private practice setting and have a foundational background in DBT. I have experience working with all ages and presenting issues, including anxiety and depression, OCD, ADHD, bipolar, substance abuse, and transitional issues. I also had the opportunity to work as a group counselor in a hospital setting for those struggling with eating disorders. Overall, my exposure to working with clients of all backgrounds has provided me with the ability to be flexible and adaptable in all settings. I am passionate about working with individuals (adults and children) who struggle with anxiety and depression.
Prior to receiving my clinical licensure, I worked as a school counselor for 10 years in private schools within the K-8 age range. I am passionate about working with children struggling with school anxiety. I also have a background in coaching baseball and squash.
I believe that a critical piece of therapy involves establishing a trusting relationship with my clients. Fostering a non-judgmental, warm, and welcoming atmosphere is my primary goal as a therapist. I believe that mental healthcare is a human right, and I am excited to work with others who believe the same!
In my free time, I enjoy watching baseball, going to concerts, listening to music (sometimes playing guitar!), and getting exercise whenever I can. I love keeping up to date with new movies and tv shows, and I am a big animal lover. I wish you luck in your journey and I am looking forward to working with new clients!
