Hi, I’m Courtney Pickworth—a Licensed Professional Counselor and National Certified Counselor who believes therapy should feel supportive, empowering, and sometimes even a little fun. Life is full of twists, challenges, and growing pains, and I’m here to help you navigate them with compassion, humor, and practical tools for change.
I work with children, teens, and young adults who are learning to manage anxiety, depression, stress, and the everyday pressures of life. My goal is to create a space where you feel heard, accepted, and equipped to handle whatever life throws your way. Whether you’re navigating school stress, family dynamics, relationship issues, or a big life transition, we’ll work together to strengthen your coping skills, build confidence, and create lasting positive change.
💬 How I Work
My therapy style is collaborative, compassionate, and client-centered. I integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and holistic approaches that focus on aligning mind, body, and emotions. Together, we’ll explore the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors—and use that understanding to help you shift perspective, break unhelpful patterns, and build healthier habits.
I also draw from strengths-based, mindfulness, and family systems approaches, helping clients and families grow stronger together. I see therapy as a partnership—you bring your experiences and insight; I bring evidence-based strategies, a supportive presence, and (when it fits) a little humor to make the process less intimidating.
Therapy with me often includes:
Learning to manage anxiety and stress in practical, doable ways
Reframing negative thought patterns and self-talk
Building emotional regulation and communication skills
Developing tools for self-esteem and identity exploration
Healing from trauma and navigating life transitions with resilience
🌿 Who I Work With
I specialize in working with:
Children, teens, and young adults navigating ADHD, anxiety, and depression
Families seeking healthier communication and connection
LGBTQ+ and gender-diverse clients exploring identity and belonging
Individuals coping with grief, loss, or family conflict
Clients experiencing trauma, OCD, and self-esteem challenges
Whether it’s a teen trying to find their place in the world, a young adult balancing independence and expectations, or a family seeking peace at home, I approach each client with empathy, curiosity, and care.
❤️ My Background
I earned my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Spring Arbor University and am a proud Central Michigan University (Fire Up Chips!) alum, where I earned a dual Bachelor’s in Psychology and Family Studies. My clinical experience spans school-based counseling, outpatient therapy, and family systems work.
In my years of practice, I’ve worked with youth in both school and outpatient settings—helping them navigate mental health struggles, build resilience, and strengthen family connections. My work is guided by a deep belief that everyone has the capacity for growth and healing when they’re given the right support and tools.
🌈 Creating a Safe, Empowering Space
I am passionate about creating an environment that’s inclusive, supportive, and affirming of all identities. I proudly serve LGBTQ+ individuals and clients from diverse cultural backgrounds, ensuring that therapy feels like a space where you can truly be yourself—no judgment, just understanding and encouragement.
For families, I work to build bridges across generations, fostering empathy and connection. Together, we’ll uncover the strengths in your family system and learn how to use them to support lasting growth.
🧠 Why I Love This Work
For me, therapy is about connection and courage. It’s about showing up for yourself, even when it’s hard. It’s about laughing through the tough stuff and celebrating every small win along the way. My clients often tell me that therapy feels like a mix of real talk, reflection, and practical problem-solving—which is exactly how I want it to feel.
When I’m not in session, I love spending time outdoors, exploring new places, staying active, and enjoying time with family, friends, and my dog, Theodore. (He’s a great listener, but I promise I’m better at the therapy part.)
At Ellie Mental Health in Novi, we believe therapy should feel approachable, authentic, and full of heart. You don’t have to have it all figured out—you just have to be willing to start.
If you’re ready to take that first step toward balance, healing, and growth, I’d be honored to walk alongside you. Schedule today, and let’s start creating your next chapter—together.
