Julie Corson (she/her) is a Licensed Associate Counselor with a master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling- Clinical Mental Health Counseling track from Rutgers University’s School of Health Professions. Julie’s prior clinical experience includes working with adolescents through the nonprofit, Full-Service Community Schools, based out of the Paterson school system in New Jersey. In this role Julie was able to support high school students through individual weekly therapy in navigating life transitions and addressing mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, OCD, ADHD, complex trauma, and challenges relating to identity and family acceptance. Julie has also assisted with up-and-coming research pertaining to unique stressors in the mental health of LGBTQIA+ individuals, and counselor competencies in supporting LGBTQIA+ identifying clients with serious mental illness.
Julie considers herself first and foremost a Person-Centered counselor and highly values the collaborative dynamic between client and counselor. She believes that the best way to healing is through a team-work approach in the client-counselor relationship, and that clients are the experts in their own lives. Strong rapport and trust are necessary ingredients to treatment success. Julie also utilizes empirically supported techniques and methodologies, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical-Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Trauma-Informed Care (TIC). She describes herself as an eclectic therapist, and tailors her approach to her client’s individual needs, rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach.
Julie specializes in LGBTQIA+ affirming mental health care, and aims to ensure that her counseling is intersectional, validating, and takes into account the unique lived experiences of every individual. As she continues her career as an LAC, Julie hopes to further specialize in trauma counseling, and explore other areas such as narrative therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and play therapy.
