Hello, my name is Steve Crawford, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor-Associate practicing under the supervision of Dr. Demetrius Cofield, PhD, LPC-Supervisor. Becoming a therapist was more than a career choice—it was a response to a need I witnessed growing up. As a Black man, I saw firsthand the strength and resilience within my community, but I also recognized how conversations surrounding mental health were often avoided, especially among Black men. These experiences inspired me to become an advocate for mental health and to help create spaces where individuals feel safe, supported, and empowered to seek help without fear of judgment.
I earned both my Bachelor of Science in Psychology, with a minor in Sociology, and my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Sam Houston State University. My clinical training at the Jack Stagg Clinic and Journey Through Life strengthened my passion for working with adolescents and young adults while deepening my understanding of how family dynamics, culture, and life experiences shape emotional well-being. Today, I work with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, stress, self-esteem concerns, relationship difficulties, and major life transitions.
My approach to counseling is collaborative, compassionate, and tailored to each client’s unique needs. I primarily utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Person-Centered Therapy to help clients better understand themselves, develop effective coping skills, build confidence, and create meaningful, lasting change. I strive to provide culturally responsive care where every client feels seen, heard, and valued, regardless of their background or experiences.
I believe seeking therapy is an act of strength, not weakness. Whether you are navigating life’s challenges, struggling with anxiety or depression, or simply looking for a space to grow, my goal is to walk alongside you with empathy, authenticity, and encouragement. I am committed to helping clients discover their resilience, embrace their strengths, and leave therapy feeling more confident, supported, and equipped to thrive.
