Twyla is a licensed clinical social worker and school social worker for 20+ years in an elementary school and has worked in an outpatient mental health clinic. She also has worked in private practice. Twyla is passionate about helping children, teens, and families to improve their mental health by using alternative and integrative counseling methods, such as yoga, tai chi, mindfulness, and sound healing. Twyla is working on a certificate in play therapy from Bethel University. She loves working with kids in a playful and engaging modalities, such as sand tray therapy and child-centered play therapy. Twyla also loves coaching parents on becoming more empowered and effective.
When she is not working, Twyla loves to relax by taking yoga classes at the Y, walking her dog Diva, taking pontoon boat rides with her husband on area lakes, and spending time with her friends and family.
Twyla has experience working with students with trauma, ADHD, anxiety, depression, and adjustment disorders due to recent family changes, such as death, grief and loss, divorce and separation, incarceration, and addiction or alcoholism. Some of her favorite things to teach kids are coping and relaxation skills, assertiveness and conflict resolution skills, and emotional regulation skills.
