Valerie is a pre-licensed psychologist with a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the APA accredited Albizu University in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She completed her APA pre-doctoral internship at Children’s Institute of Los Angeles, CA in Early Childhood Mental Health and is certified in the evidenced-based Parent-Child Interaction Therapy. She also completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the MassGeneral for Children at the Salem Hospital in Pediatric Neuropsychology and Outpatient Mental Health. Valerie provides an evidence-based treatment tailored to your own areas of needs and strengths, using different modalities, techniques, and approaches with specific, measurable goals. She is fluent in both English and Spanish.
When providing individual therapy, with a solution-focused compass, she wants to help you unlock your true potential, find balance and meaning, strengthen your protective factors and achieve the best quality of life to feel wholesome in the best way possible.
When providing parent-child therapy, she wants to help parents learn new skills to improve behavioral concerns, process trauma, increase positive parenting and improve interactional patterns. Valerie wants to help parents learn and strengthen effective and simple behavior-management techniques, relationship skills, such as child-centered play, positive reinforcement, and problem-solving skills to help with every day life.
When providing family therapy, she wants to help families attain skills to enhance relational patterns, strengthen the bond and create a safe space for families to understand each other, set healthy boundaries, improve communication, and thrive together, highlighting empathy, validation and conflict resolution.
