Amber O’Guinn comes from a family where she is the youngest of three girls. She grew up on a little bit of faith, a little bit of country music (on 8 track, records, and cassette tapes no doubt), and a whole lot of family time.
She has a Bachelor of Science in Human Development from Texas Tech University. Right out of college she worked for Child Protective Services for three years as an ongoing or a Conservatorship Worker. Basically, after a child was removed, she took the case from the investigator and worked with the parents to hopefully get their child back. In the times that she was not able to return the child home she worked hard to find the child permanence whether that was with an adoptive family or with other members of the child’s family. After leaving CPS and wondering what she wanted to do next she learned that Social Work was her true calling and went back to graduate school. She graduated in 2013 with her Master’s Degree in Social Work and passed her licensing exam soon after to become a LMSW or a Licensed Masters Social Worker.
Since becoming a Social Worker she has worked with single moms and their children, worked in dialysis, worked with domestic violence victims and their children, behavioral health hospitals with teen girls, outpatient hospitals with teen girls, and worked in individual therapy with teens coming out of sex trafficking. While working with these various clients she learned that her strength was in helping teens and adults overcome current or past trauma and PTSD.
During this time Amber also became a foster mom for three years. She had six absolutely adorable boys before finally getting her beautiful baby girl. That baby girl decided that she liked it there with Amber as she decided to stick around forever. Amber adopted this precious baby at 18 months old and began a whole new journey.
Amber looks forward to getting to know each and every one of you during our time together.
