Fred Smith, MS, LPC, NCC, earned his Master of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from National Louis University. Fred has been involved with Victories of the Heart -an organization that aids men in their personal growth- for 23 years. It was Fred’s work as a Breakthrough Weekend Leader with Victories that led him to a later-in-life career change to become a professional counselor.

Fred works with adults and couples experiencing life transitions, anxiety, depression, PTSD and CPTSD, aging issues, shame, addictions and other adjustment concerns. Using the therapeutic relationship to connect with you at the deepest, heart-to-heart level, Fred walks with you on your journey to know your most true, authentic Self-and how to cope with all that it means to be human.

Fred is an Internal Family Systems (IFS) trained counselor. To Fred all of your parts are welcome, even the ones that behave negatively, or the ones you try to push away. In conjunction with IFS, Fred uses a Person-Centered holistic approach and pulls from CBT, DBT, Narrative Therapy and Brief solution-focused therapy.

Fred enjoys most types of music, and loves to be outside kayaking, golfing, or hiking. He loves experiencing standup comedy as an antidote to life challenges. He is a cigar aficionado and enjoys cigars in the interest of his own self-care, to connect with others, for relaxation, and to explore existential meaning.
